BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT
The Mercer County Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, Engineering Division determined that a structurally deficient bridge on Old Trenton Road over Bridegroom Run was in need of replacement. For this project, MEC conducted a delineation of all regulated waters and wetlands within the study area, upstream and downstream of the bridge as well as in each direction along the existing roadway. MEC also conducted a tree identification and measurement survey within the study area. A total of 90 trees, representing 20 species, met the minimum size requirements within the study area.
MEC then coordinated with the project surveyor to ensure all of the wetland boundary flags and tree flags were located. This information was utilized by the project engineer and MEC to minimize impacts to waters, wetlands, wetland buffers, riparian zones and Green Acres-encumbered properties in the design of the bridge replacement. Minimization of impacts to these regulated areas was required to maintain compliance with the NJDEP regulations. Preparation of one application package to NJDEP for a Freshwater Wetlands General Permit 10A and a Flood Hazard Area Individual Permit was prepared. Both permits were obtained.
